Committing To A Troubled Horse

Updated: Sep 15, 2025

Mary has committed to a troubled horse. She bought this horse for her 10 year old son. Even though the horse was recommended by her trainer at the time, she realized after a short while that he was not suitable.

Fast forward to now, 4 years later. She has been riding this horse at home. This is her second lesson on him. The first lesson in July, we were able to do groundwork only. She has been at home working on him with techniques from watching group lessons. Last Saturday is the day she leveled up to try him in a group setting again. This is not an easy nor a glamorous undertaking, and she knows that. We've discussed his needs, and options to resale. She decided to take on the risk and commit.

She may not be able to change him into a good citizen, but she is becoming a horseman while she works on this troubled horse, and I am not one to stand in the way of badassery or commitment.
